Role and responsibilities:
The purpose of the security assistant position is to assistant emergency project team in the field while doing assessment and cash distribution.
Generic responsibilities
These responsibilities shall be the same for all positions with the same title. The responsibilities shall be short and essential. Details belong in the Work and Development plan.
1. Implement NRC’s safety and security policies at field level
- Strict adherence to the NRC Code of Conduct.
- Conduct regular security and risk assessments to identify safety and security needs in the area
- Ensure that minimum operating security standards and procedures are implemented in the field office;
- Develop a strong and diverse information network from which reliable and up to date information on security may be obtained;
- Provide regular security related update to NRC staff – program, office, drivers
Specific responsibilities
- Regularly travel to the field with emergency programme team, provide updated security related information to the field staff
- Proactively contact members of this information network to collect information on security in order to provide advice to the AM and Security Officer on day to day security issues;
- Immediately report all breaches of safety and security procedures and all threats to NRC staff, beneficiaries, activities or assets
- Ensure vehicle and staff movements are monitored according to procedures and that necessary safety and security equipment are available and in good condition
- Maintain location boards tracking NRC office staff and vehicles
- Alert CSFP (Security Focal Point) to important events, from monitoring internet, news in English and local languages, as well as via security alert systems
- Maintain a close vigilance on the local political and military situation in the region and keep informed to AM/SFP on regular basis
- Fulfill any other related tasks that may be assigned by the AM or the SFP.
- Perform any other task given by line manager

By interfaces, NRC means processes and projects that are interlinked with other departments/units or persons. Relevant interfaces for this position are:
- Work closely with programme staff in Erbil
- Other INGOs and International Organizations
Generic professional competencies:
- Experience from working as a Security Officer in a humanitarian/recovery context
- Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
- Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
- Fluency in Kurds and Arabic, English knowledge desirable
Context/ Specific skills, knowledge and experience:
- High school pass or equivalent qualification.
- 2 years of experience in similar role in an INGO or UN Agency
- Keen sense of compliance with policy and procedure
- Good cultural awareness and sensitivity
