Job description
The Protection Officer will be responsible for the technical supervision and coordination of all the protection-related activities across the four Syrian refugee camps in Erbil Governorate.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Project Manager and the Protection Coordinator, the Protection Officer is expected to perform the following duties:
- Provide technical guidance to INTERSOS Protection staff (Community Service Associates, Social Workers, Outreach Workers) ensuring quality implementation and achievements of results related to Protection Monitoring and Community Services activities;
- Conduct frequent and regular field visits to monitor activities in the four refugee camps;
- Assist the Social Workers and the Outreach Workers in daily case management of vulnerable individuals: identification, registration, referral, follow-up, provision of ad hoc assistance;
- Provide the field teams with technical support for the organization of assessments, FGDs, awareness and information campaigns on key protection issues and other relevant activities;
- Ensure all monitoring activities are fully documented, including systematic and timely data collection and contribute to data entry on regular basis as per the standard monitoring formats;
- Produce relevant Protection-related reports;
- Design/Deliver/participate in trainings and workshops on protection issues and other capacity building activities according to the project needs and requests from the Project Manager and the Protection Coordinator;
- Establish and maintain positive working relations with camp authorities and relevant stakeholders in the community to ensure cooperation and success of project implementation;
- Support the logistics for activities and ad hoc assistance initiatives following donor’s procedures and regulations;
- Perform any other task not here listed and necessary for the implementation of the project activities or the mission programme as requested by the supervisor and Protection Coordinator.
Qualifications & Preferred Skills
- University degree in social science or other related fields is highly desirable;
- Previous experience (minimum two years) in similar position with International, national organizations and government authorities is mandatory;
- Experience in case management, referral pathway and counselling
- Strong knowledge of international protection and human rights legal standards;
- Ability to develop high quality reports
- Good problem solving skills and ability to work in team;
- Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills;
- Good Computer literacy;
- Excellent spoken and written English and Arabic is mandatory;
- Knowledge of GBV/Child protection standards
- A high respect to client/organization confidentiality;
- Ability to work in a multicultural context as a flexible and respectful team;
- Flexibility and ability to cope with stressful situations;
- Previous working experience with IDPs, refugees and returnees.
