Job description
To facilitate achievement of the medical objectives to reduce morbidity and mortality by provision of emergency primary healthcare services to conflict-affected populations in Iraq. The health team will support communities providing access to quality mobile healthcare. The potential for outbreak is high – health teams need to be vigilant with surveillance and record keeping. Medair will also retain the capacity to establish mobile medical units for new displacements or scale-up in event of an outbreak.
Project overview
To facilitate achievement of the medical objectives to reduce morbidity and mortality by provision of emergency healthcare services to conflict affected populations in Ninewa and Dohuk Governorates, Iraq. The health team has established one Mobile Medical Unit providing access to quality healthcare in Sinjar district. Medair is focused on addressing health and nutrition needs in this complex context.
Technical:
- Responsible for overall management of the health and nutrition pharmacy and storeroom of the Sinjar district Mobile Medical Unit (MMU)
- Dispense medications as prescribed by the medical of the MMU ensuring patients understand dosage and instructions
- Inform patients how drugs need to be taken, give advice and ensure patients have good understanding
- Discuss any unclear prescriptions with the prescribing medical staff to ensure patient safety at all times
- Ensure stock management including proper bin cards, stock cards, waybills, registers
- Provide timely stock reports at the end of each week to share with the Medair health team
- Ensure that the condition and expiry dates of drugs and medical supply ordered are properly checked
- Ensure in-coming supplies are cleared with the waybills and enrolled in the storeroom stock correctly
- Conduct proper physical stock counts weekly to monthly to be determined by the Medair Health Project Manager
- Maintain quality, safety of drugs and infection control standards
- Report all issue of stock rupture and expiry drugs to the Health Manager
- Provide quarterly stock consumption reports to the Health Manager
- Assist the Health Manager in determining drug stock needs and placing procurement orders
Quality Management:
- Aiming to achieve the highest quality programming possible within the challenging context of Iraq
- Ensure all stocks are accounted for and reports are accurate
- Upholding Medair values at all times, both within and outside working hours
External Representation:
- Representing Medair in relevant meetings in Iraq as requested
- Meeting with NGO partners, local authorities and local partners as requested
Training:
- Assist in the training of clinic staff and dispensers in proper clinic stock management and stock requests
Other:
- Translate documents and/or interprets conversations when necessary to support the Medair team
- Report to the supervisor any problem in the clinic especially the gap/loss/robbery/damage of medical equipment or any patient and organizational issue
- Be aware of the security rules and social and political situation in the field at any time and provide feedback to the Health Program Manager
Qualifications & Preferred Skills
- 1 year of professional experience after qualification; 1 year experience in pharmacy or drug store/warehouse
- Certificate or diploma in pharmacy
- Planning and organizational skills
