- Purpose/objective of the position:
The social worker will contribute to drive forward INTERSOS’s program focusing on people with special/protection needs, making necessary referrals, facilitating coordination amongst relevant agencies,and increasing knowledge and awareness within the community about social/protection related issues.The social worker will be responsible, along with the case workers and the volunteers from the community, for the implementation of specific activities, including monitoring and needs assessment visits in the field on a daily basis.
- Responsibilities/duties:
Under the supervision of the Community Center Coordinator and the Protection Officer the OutreachSocial Worker will:
- Plan, design and monitor the overall implementation plan (weekly and monthly) of the outreach activities along with the Coordinator in the assigned areas.
- Facilitate the development of self-management among the IDP population through the identification, involvement, training and coaching of volunteers from the community.
- Liaise and maintain daily relationships with the volunteers in order to monitor, survey, assess the target population in the assigned area at household and group level through daily home and field visits.
- Work to identify and support community focal points/settlement representatives.
- Liaise and maintain daily relationships between INTERSOS, IDPs, refugees and host community representatives, local leaders and grassroots organizations in the assigned area and provide them with overall orientation on the project;
- Assist the IDPs community and volunteers in obtaining information, knowledge and access to available relevant services through outreach activities;
- Coordinate with volunteers for the mobilization of the members of the IDP community and their involvement in the activities conducted by INTERSOS at the Community Centre.
- Facilitate the decision making and self-help processes through peer-led focus groups discussions and life skills sessions in coordination with the volunteers.
- Ensure all monitoring activities are fully documented, including systematic and timely data collection and contribute to data entry on regular basis as per the standard monitoring formats;
- Identify, refer and follow up cases in coordination with the volunteers from the community and the caseworkers.
- Work in close coordination with the caseworkers to establish a relation with the vulnerable individuals and persons with specific needs identified in order to conduct a more in-depth assessment of their needs and protection concerns.
- Plan, design and monitor the access to service providers within and outside the Community Centre of vulnerable individuals identified in outreach across the assigned areas.
- Facilitate the engagement of all the segment of the IDP population to the planned activities held at the assigned INTERSOS Community Centre, notably the most vulnerable ones (youth, women, elderly, minority members, people with disabilities etc.), ensuring that proper attention is paid to specific emotional and physical needs.
- Liaise with local stakeholders, specialized agencies and service providers, governmental authorities with the aim of strengthening joint planning and synergies envisaging the participation of the community.
- Maintain daily attendance registers and monthly inventory sheets for the outreach activities.
- Ensure that the supplied material and equipment for outreach activities are daily accounted for and secured.
- Perform any other task assigned by the CC Coordinator, Protection Officer, Project manager and/or Protection Coordinator to support and improve the project.
Skills/Competences:
- A minimum Bachelor degree in social work, pedagogy or other related field of studies;
- Previous NGOs’ experience highly desirable;
- Experience of implementing and developing protection programs;
- Strong organizational, diplomatic and communications skills;
- Ability to work in team and conduct field monitoring visits on a daily basis to the areas covered by the project;
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish working relations with target communities and project staff;
- Good problem solving skills and ability to work independently;
- Stress-resilient to be able to cope with deadlines and complex problems;
- Good writing skills and computer literacy;
- Good knowledge of Arabic is mandatory. Knowledge of English is an asset.
