Job description
To facilitate achievement of the medical objectives to reduce morbidity and mortality by provision of emergency primary healthcare services to conflict-affected populations in Iraq. The health team will support communities providing access to quality mobile healthcare. The potential for outbreak is high – health teams need to be vigilant with surveillance and record keeping. Medair will also retain the capacity to establish mobile medical units for new displacements or scale-up in event of an outbreak.
Medical/Technical:
- Provide consultations with diagnosis and treatment of illnesses based on Iraqi or International guidelines
- Order and interpret appropriate point-of-care laboratory tests as needed
- Prescribe medications and instruct patients on correct usage
- Refer patients with complications to Snuni, Duhok or Zahko hospitals
- Refer children or pregnant women in need of immunizations to DOH / mobile EPI outreach teams
- Refer pregnant women ready to deliver to Snuni hospital or Dohuk Maternity Hospital
- Provide patient education and instruct on prevention methods for illness, proper nutrition, and hygiene
- Perform suturing and dressings as required
- Monitor for outbreak-prone diseases and alert Medair team for any suspected case of measles, meningitis, cholera, or other outbreak-prone illnesses
- Assist registrar and management to compile weekly and monthly reports
Quality Management:
- Aiming to achieve the highest quality programming possible within the challenging context of Iraq
- Ensure all patients are treated based on the guidelines
- Upholding Medair values at all times, both within and outside working hours
- Demonstrate good hygiene practices with hand-washing and following universal precautions
External Representation:
- Representing Medair in the relevant meetings in Iraq as requested
- Meeting with NGO partners, local authorities and local partners as requested
Logistics:
- Assist pharmacy tech and other clinic staff in preparing stock requests to provide to Medair as scheduled
- Ensure all stocks required are in the clinic at all times and ensure that Medair health team is made immediately aware of any low stock or stock outs
Meetings:
- Debrief as required with the Medair Health Manager
- Attend internal Medair meetings
Other:
- Translate documents and/or interprets conversations when necessary to support the Medair team
- Report to the supervisor any problem in the clinic especially the gap/loss/robbery/damage of medical equipment or any patient and organizational issue
- Be aware of social and political situation and follow the Medair security rules in the field at all times, providing feedback to the Health Project Manager
Qualifications & Preferred Skills
- Degree in Clinical Medicine
- 1 year of professional experience after qualification
- Fluent in Behdini Kurdish and Arabic; some English
- Respectful towards other cultures and able to establish relationships easily
- Secure and at ease with professional skills
- Coaching/teaching skills
