Job description

  • The driver will work in direct support of the SP Program in Northern Iraq and under the overall supervision of the Sr. Operations Manager, abiding by the SP code of conduct.
  • The driver will operate the Samaritan’s Purse vehicles in a safe & responsible way, and ensure that it is well maintained by ensuring preventive maintenance services for the wellbeing of the vehicle.  In addition, this position could provide support to the Logistics Officer with  Logistics tasks as needed and requested by either the Senior Operations Manager  and/or the Logistics Officer
  • Stand in for the logistics officer during times of absence.
  • With a generous and serving spirit perform all other tasks and responsibilities assigned for the benefit of Samaritan’s Purse.
  • Have a valid driving license for Northern Iraq during employment with SP
  • Maintaining Christian witness to the communities.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Run office errands as instructed by your supervisor.
  2. Drive staff to and from meetings and other official errands.
  3. Keep track/records of when the vehicle should be serviced and report any abnormalities with the vehicle.
  4. Keep proper records of logbooks for fuel consumption. Every entry should be filled out accurately and timely.
  5. Ensure fuel provided by the organization is used only for authorized work in the field.
  6. Ensure safety of the vehicle, goods, self and SP staff at all times.
  7. Ensure that the vehicle is clean at all times.
  8. Ensure proper use of the communications & tracking equipment installed in the vehicle
  9. Adhere to the Organization’s Health, Safety and Security rules and Personal Hygiene guidelines.
  10. Ensure Trauma Kits in vehicles are in good condition at all times
  11. Drive within the time specified by the organization.
  12. Adhere to the SP driver Policy/ Rules and Regulations

Specific tasks include:

  1. Review the day’s tasks during an initial briefing with the Senior Operations Manager
    1. Understand what driving tasks are required for the day or multi-day period
    2. Understand deadlines and timeframes anticipated for travel
  2. Conduct a full vehicle inspection of assigned vehicle at the start of every day
  1. Driving lights are working
  2. Brake and indicator lights are working
  3. Brake fluid (operational level)
  4. Radiator fluid (operational level)
  5. Power steering fluid (operational level)
  6. Engine Oil (operational level)
  7. Windshield Fluid (operational level)
  8. REPORT ANY CONCERNS WITH THE ABOVE TO Senior Operations Manager  for immediate action.
  1. Ensure minimum vehicle equipment is present and working effectively

 

  1. Review assigned driving tasks with passengers and journey leader
    1. Confirm with team (journey) leader and passenger’s last minute destination or route changes which were not part of the original approved travel plan.
  2. Approve or reject the condition of your vehicle against the tasks set for the day.   As leader of the vehicle, you are entitled at any stage to reject any “non-emergency” travel based on your doubt about the operation capacity of the vehicle and the road/weather conditions at the time.
  3. You must (in all vehicle travel) continually assess the condition of the roads and the environment
      1. If the vehicle is at risk of entering civil unrest you must either select an alternative route to complete your journey or abort the journey and return to the nearest safe location.
      2.  If aborting a journey, you must contact your respective office from where you departed and inform them of your revised plan.
  4. Carry out tasks as determined by the Senior Operations Manager  or the logistics officer during times of absence of the Senior Operations Manager
  5. At the conclusion of your work day you must complete the following tasks;
  6. Complete daily vehicle log recording the details of tasks and journeys made throughout the shift.

    3. Brake fluid (operational level)
    4. Radiator fluid (operational level)
    5. Power steering fluid (operational level)

  1. Ensure vehicle is clean inside
    1. REPORT ANY CONCERNS WITH THE ABOVE To Senior Operations Manager  for immediate action.
  1. Ensure that the vehicle is washed on the outside at least once a week

  • Familiarity with the region within the area which the driver will be primarily driving.
  • Good oral communication skills in local languages, and preferably English.
  • Willing to work long hours and weekends, and to travel away from the site.
  • Preferred 4 years driving experience, 2 with an international company or NGO.
  • Above the age of 23 years old.
  • Reference letter from past employer
  • Pass the SP driving test
